長く親しんできた茶の湯は、今や私にとってかけがえのない世界となっています。
日々の暮らしを丁寧に紡ぎ、美しいものに心をときめかせ、自由な発想で生活を楽しむこと。大事にしたいと思うことの数々を茶の湯から教わりました。
茶の湯が私に教えてくれたこと、少しでも多くの方におすそ分けできたら。
そんな思いから寺田美術が生まれました。
Thoughts
The tea ceremony, which I have been familiar with since my child hood, is now an irreplaceable part of my life.
To thoughtfully live our day-to-day, to appreciate beautiful things and to enjoy the life of a freethinker; I have learnt my values and respects from my experience with the tea ceremony.
It was within my want to share these treasured ideation and of course the astonishing pieces that the Terada Antique shop & Gallery had been created.
自由の妙も茶の湯の奥深さ
茶道には、ここは外してはならないとされる決まり事があります。それは同時に、茶道とはわきまえを教えてくれるものであるということでもあります。守らなければならないルールを大事にしながらも、ある種の縛りの中で、その縛りを超えて自分なりの独創性を表現できる。その妙こそが、茶道の面白さ奥深さであり、美しさではないかと日々感じています。
Freedom
Perhaps not enough people are aware of the freedom you own in the traditional tea ceremony world.
The conventional belief that ‘the traditional tea ceremony seems restricting’ is not necessarily true.
There are certainly rules that have to be followed; however at the same time even within the rules it’s in fact tea ceremony’s important feature that you can actually bring out originality.
In other words, it’s the concept of going beyond the boundaries to express your individuality; the beauty and what makes the tea ceremony so interesting is indeed this peculiarity and it’s depth.
古きと新しきが交わるしつらえ
お茶の世界では、骨董美術の名品を『御馳走』などと表現することがございます。
それほどに古い時代のお道具は珍重されてまいりました。それを表すことの一つに、「作られた時代を合わせる」という、しつらえの大切な約束事があります。
茶道のわきまえがあるからこそ、プライベートな空間では古いものに新しいものを組み合わせたり、見立てをしたり、より自由なしつらえの楽しみがあるように感じます。
現代作家の作品にも、骨董に負けず劣らず心に迫りくるような美しさを秘めた器がございます。古いものに、そういった新しい現代作家の作品を組み合わせる時、ぴったりと時代を揃えた時には現れなかった小さな隙間のような感覚が生まれます。この隙間に吹き込む新しい風が、しつらえの楽しみをさらに広げてくれるのです。
寺田美術では、骨董と共に、そうしたしつらえを叶える、骨董の品々にも力負けしないエネルギーを持った現代作家の作品も取り扱い、皆様にご紹介してまいります。
Combination of tradition and modern
I still remember the time when I shivered from astonishment by a tea ceremony arrangement I found on a magazine page.
Almost all the tea utensils that were used were work by the hands of contemporary artists.
The composition created a space with a dignified tension yet elegancy and delicacy; the combination had highlighted the established artistry but moreover it stroked the beauty of the (tea ceremony) world.
Those breathtaking and inspiring feelings are unforgettable till this day.
It’s within tea ceremony’s main principle to ‘match the made era’; however by shifting the focus to the beauty of the arrangements and for instance incorporating an antique tea container with a modern artistic Japanese teacup, created a pleasing outcome.
The presence of two art pieces from different era mutually complemented each other, sometimes they give and take, but intriguingly it emphasized the beauty of each piece and further stimulated the vivid atmosphere.
However these tea ceremony compositions are only possibly with the use of limited modern pieces that won’t be humbled by the impressive antique pieces.
Thus at Terada Antique shop and Gallery, we introduce not only antique pieces but also we work with modern artists’ with true talent and their engaging art pieces.
行ったり来たり、見立てる楽しみ
たとえば、本来は茶道具としての用途がないものを、茶席のしつらえに取り入れる。古い銀の英国製スプーンを灰さじに見立てたり、あるいはラリックのガラス器を水指に見立ててしつらえてみたり。
また反対に、本来は茶道具として生まれたものを、日々の暮らしの中に取り入れてみる。
水指をワインクーラーに見立てたり、茶碗をオブジェに見立ててテーブルに飾ってみたり。
あえて時代を合わせない遊びや、見立てるという遊びが、思いがけない美しさを呼び覚ますことがあります。こういった遊びによって、しつらえがいい塩梅におさまった時には、心がみずみずしく潤うような心地になるものです。
道具だから、オブジェだからと決めつけることなく、一つのものと対面する時に、そのもののまた別な一面を見つめることが見立ての楽しみ。美しい力のある作品ほど、見立てを幾通りにも引き出してくれる可能性に満ちています。
寺田美術では、見立てを楽しみながらしつらえを遊ぶ「美立会（みたてかい）」を不定期で開催するほか、茶道の世界と日常生活の垣根を低く、行ったり来たり楽しめるような作品との出会いに心を尽くしてまいりたいと考えております。
洋の東西、時代の新旧を問わず、美しく、本物として力のあるものは、どこでどんな風に用いても、
心を満たしてくれるもの。
当店で出会ったものと住まいをしつらえることを通して、お客様の生活がより楽しく、心がより豊かに潤うならば、
店主としてこれ以上の幸せはございません。

Arrangements
To adopt the use of foreign pieces into the tea ceremony arrangement are perhaps out of the norm, which could be like resembling an antique silver spoon made in England as an ash spoon or it could even be a Lalique’s glassware used as a pitcher, however such playfulness could bring out the unexpected beauty.
When an arrangement is nestled well in this manner, it seems to refresh the mind with a new perception.
Alternatively, pieces that were originally created for tea ceremonies can also be incorporated and be appreciated in our daily lives.
By resembling a water pot as a wine cooler or even by using a Japanese tea cup as a caf? latte bowl.
Therefore in Terada Antique shops and Gallery, we would like to put all our heart and dedication to share and encourage such proposals.
Regardless the pieces’ origin, east or west, and despite the era, antique or modern, beauty can be obtained; pieces that are truly authentic and are a real piece of art work, wherever and how ever it is made in use, will fulfill our heart with beauty and inspiration.
